Most Frequently Asked Questions :: (FAQs)

1.   Coach, can you help me get into a school?

Yes.  First, ask yourself if you really want to go to school and make the necessary commitment, (athletically and academically), to get into a 4-year institution.  Information I'll need to know will include your:

  • GPA, SAT and/or ACT scores,

  • High school grades;  (Grades need to be “C” or higher.),

  • Required sixteen (16) college core units,

  • High school ranking, and

  • NCAA eligibility for D1 or D2 scholarships.   (A good head coach/athletic director will ensure all high school juniors and seniors have been signed up for admission to the NCAA Eigibility Center.   Student athletes may request an application fee waiver.)

2.   Can I really get a scholarship?

First of all, nothing’s guaranteed but if you have everything, athletically and academically, the odds are in your favor.   A college or university that has a scholarship available can make your goals and dreams come true.  That’s what Golden West can do.  We advocate for you.

3.   How much will it cost me to use GWCAS's services?   What about donations?

Golden West College Athletic Services is a non-profit organization, so donations are very important to helping next-generation athletes reach their goals and dreams.  Once we get you into a university or college, we ask that you and your parents commit to donating $525 twice a year, (every six (6) months), until graduation.

When student athletes benefit from our services and then give back, it enables us to help others.   Some student athletes don’t have basic necessities like gym bags, sneakers, tennis rackets and other supplies and equipment that they need, but can’t afford.

After graduation, we ask that you invest in Golden West by giving back $525, bi-annually, (every 6 months). This enables us to continually help worthy and talented student athletes.  These vital donations help student athletes without necessary means, to not only compete but to succeed.

4.   Can you help me with a workout / training plan?

Yes, we can direct you and give you a workout plan for each individual sport you play and help you prepare for the next level of athletic competition.

5.   Do you want me to send you a full-game film or video?

Yes, we would like at least 2 – 3 games of full length video, but make sure it's the best demonstration of your abilities, (both offensively and defensively, where applicable).

6.   How does GWCAS work?

THE PROCESS  |  How We Work ::   With an established network of college administrators and educational professionals, Golden West's resourceful network matches and places minority student athletes with universities and colleges across the U.S.

                                                                                 REQUIREMENTS

Student athletes in either their junior or senior high school year, should compile and submit a personal profile package which includes:

  •  Two (2) student athlete photos: One head-and-shoulders and one full-length

  •  A bio highlighting both academic and athletic accomplishments

  •  GPA, SAT and ACT test scores

  •  A highlight video or film showcasing athletic abilities

We like speaking with student athletes & connecting with parents.  GWCAS interviews are conducted with both the student athlete and parent(s) present to ensure all parties are well informed about the intake and placement process. In the best interest of the student athlete, family dynamics are also considered during the match / placement process.
